Blue Fire Studios: Splinterlands

Some of the work that I have done for the company Blue Fire Studios. The illustrations were used for a spin-off website for the online card game Splinterlands. The pieces range from full scenic illustrations to simple character pngs. All pieces have been used as web assets.

Mythos: A Mythology Art Exhibit (2018)

Tongue-Cut Sparrow

Inspired by the Japanese folktale "The Tongue-cut Sparrow". The story tells that of the an old couple that take care of an injured sparrow. The husband cares for the bird and helps it heal back to full health, while the wife resents the bird and eventually cuts its tongue out. Eventually, the husband is rewarded for his kindness in a small fortune while the wife's greed and hatefulness results in a horrible fate for her. This is another great tale that cautions those away from the temptations of greed while praising those who do good simply because it's the right thing to do.

Smoke

This was completely a self-indulgent piece. I wanted to explore a stylistic way to illustrate smoke, inspired by traditional Japanese art.

Fenghuang

Usually known as the the Chinese Phoenix, the fenghuang is a mythical bird that symbolizes the celestial bodies. The fenghuang is usually shown paired with the Chinese dragon, as the two are meant to represent the Chinese Empress and Emperor respectively. Just as an Empress is a ruler of her people, the fenghuang is a ruler of birds and is said to only be found in the utmost peaceful places.
